About us

Our Story

Junior Birdies Badminton Club was founded in August 2024 by two high school students who shared a passion for badminton and wanted to bring that passion to children in the Whitby and Oshawa area.

We noticed a problem in our area: there were very few opportunities for children to discover badminton locally. For many families, learning the sport meant driving nearly 40 kilometres to Markham or Scarborough, where most badminton clubs and training opportunities were located. On top of the long commute, professional badminton programs could cost $30 or more per hour, making the sport difficult to access for many families.

We wanted to change that. Instead of asking children to travel far or families to pay expensive fees just to discover whether they enjoyed badminton, we created a local program where kids could simply come, play, and discover the sport. Our classes cost less than $5 per session, allowing children to experience badminton in an affordable and welcoming environment.

Junior Birdies is more than just badminton. Our goal is to create a positive space where children can build confidence, make friends, stay active, and develop a passion for the sport. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover something they love, regardless of their experience or background.

Today, our mission remains simple: to give children in our community an accessible and affordable place to learn, play, and develop a passion for badminton. We hope to continue growing alongside our community and use badminton as a way to make a meaningful and lasting difference.
